Two Dead, Many Rescued As Rubble Collapses On Scavengers In Kano

Two persons have been confirmed dead while many were rescued after rubble collapsed on scavengers at two demolition sites in Kano State on Thursday.

Kano State Government recently demolished some structures it said are illegal. Following the demolition of the structures, scavengers swooped to pick up materials they deem useful.

While one person died at the demolished Daula Hotel site, another person was confirmed dead at the Eid Ground demolition site.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Husaini Gumel, who was at the Daula Hotel scene of the incidents, said they have arrested 106 suspects scavenging around demolished structures in the state and will continue to provide security in the demolished sites.

Also reacting, the Managing Director of Kano State Urban Planning Development Agency, Ibrahim Yakubu, said the state government has directed the police commissioner to take over the sites and arrest trespassers.
